Who we are…..
The Altona and Area Family Resource Group (AAFRG) was formed in 1998. The original idea for this group came out of discussions at the Rhineland Interagency Team (RIAT) meetings. The need for a community based volunteer group, who would champion the cause of early childhood and family needs resulted in a community forum that gave rise to AAFRG.
Currently, we are a Board of 12 members with executive positions that include board co-chairs, a secretary, treasurer and 5 committee chairs. We follow a committee structure and a member of the Board is appointed to chair each committee. Each committee chair will meet with committee members to discuss issues and bring recommendations to the Board.
Research into early childhood is clear that the opportunities for establishing a solid foundation for positive outcomes for our children are in the first five years of life. We want to provide parents with opportunities to learn about how best to support their young children and provide the venues to support these optimum outcomes, particularly, but not exclusively in the first five years of life.
